GLOSSARY OF COMMON TERMS

IEP (Individualized Education Program) — A legal document outlining special education services and supports for a student who qualifies for specialized instruction.

504 Plan — A plan providing accommodations (not specialized instruction) for students with a disability who need support to access the general curriculum.

IEE (Independent Educational Evaluation) — An evaluation conducted by an outside, objective professional, often requested when a parent disagrees with or wants a second opinion on a school district's evaluation.

Twice-Exceptional (2e) — A term describing individuals who are both gifted and have a co-occurring learning difference, such as a learning disability, ADHD, or autism.

Processing Speed — The pace at which a person takes in, makes sense of, and responds to information — often a key factor in both learning and attention challenges.

Executive Functioning — The set of mental skills involved in planning, organizing, managing time, and regulating behavior — critical for success in school, work, and daily life.
